New Toy Alert: Acer Aspire One

I had to! It was only $99! (kinda). I did have to sign up for Vonage for a year, but I was looking at getting a home phone anyway. Besides, I need a fax machine. Anyway, back to the computer. So far I'm loving this thing. It's light, compact, stylish, and made for blogging on the go. It packs a little punch too! 120GB hard drive, Win XP, and even a webcam. This makes it the perfect companion to my not so portable 20" iMac. But as always, there is a downside that brings this lovefest to an end. The most notable thing is the battery life. It SUCK! I only get about 2 1/2 hours. I can by another one but it would cost about $120. That's over 1/3 the original cost. A little too steep but it might be a requirement. Another problem it has is the keyboard is extremely compact. Of course it would be considering this thing is only about 10" wide. And the most annoying thing is the trackpad. i know Acer was trying to be innovative, but placing the buttons on either side instead of at the bottom of the trackpad was a mistake to say the least. But honestly I've gotten use to it over time, so it's not a deal breaker. All in al, I'd give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. But since Microcenter was running a deal to get it for $100 when you sign up for a year of Vonage, I had to get on it. So if you're looking for a netbook to take on the go or just add another computer to your house, this is not a bad pick. Especially when you consider the price.
